Abstract

This library research examines the development of local wisdom-based Islamic Cultural History (ICH) learning models for Islamic Junior High Schools in Indonesia. The study addresses the persistent challenge of ICH instruction that predominantly emphasizes Middle Eastern Islamic history while inadequately incorporating Indonesia's rich Islamic heritage and local wisdom traditions. Through systematic analysis of educational theory, Islamic studies literature, curriculum documents, and empirical research, this study develops a comprehensive conceptual framework integrating local wisdom into ICH education. The research identifies five dimensions of relevant local wisdom: philosophical-religious, social-communal, educational-pedagogical, artistic-cultural, and ecological-environmental. Seven evidence-based pedagogical strategies are specified: comparative historical analysis, local hero biography study, cultural artifact analysis, field-based learning, oral history projects, creative cultural production, and collaborative community engagement. The study provides detailed content mapping demonstrating systematic local wisdom integration across all major ICH curriculum themes. Findings reveal that local wisdom-based ICH learning aligns with constructivist and sociocultural learning theories, enhances cultural relevance and student engagement, strengthens Islamic and Indonesian identity formation, and promotes deeper understanding of Islam as contextually adaptive while maintaining core principles. Implementation requires addressing challenges in teacher preparation, resource development, and policy support. This research contributes theoretical frameworks, pedagogical strategies, and practical guidelines for advancing culturally-responsive Islamic education in Indonesia.
